Giant Mine

A documentary theater project on mining waste.

If the rock could speak, what would it say?
The Giant Mine project explores the environmental impacts of mining waste on different regions of Canada. To better understand the immense ecological legacy of mining and petroleum development across the country, the artists of 2359 travel to Sudbury, Rouyn-Noranda, Yellowknife and Fort MacMurray. There, they met citizens, politicians, activists, scientists and artists who opened their eyes to these contaminated landscapes.

The installation proposed by 2359 in collaboration with Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario invites participants to reflect on their relationship with the land. Equipped with “metal detectors”, they set off to discover a collection of sound extracts that initiate a conversation
